Two die of swine flu in Chennai, India’s H1N1 toll at 42

swine fluChennai: With two H1N1 deaths being reported from Chennai, India’s swine flu toll reached 42.

They were admitted to the hospital after duo tested positive for H1N1 where they succummbed to the virus. Further details are awaited.

Swine flu claimed a 35-year-old man in Ahmedabad’s civil hospital on Thursday, taking the toll due to the viral disease to four in Gujarat, an official said.

Chetan Pratapbhai Patel was admitted to the civil hospital on Aug 16 after being referred from a private hospital in Odhav area of the city.

His samples were sent for testing and confirmation of the H1N1 virus infection received Wednesday, a senior resident doctor of the civil hospital said.

Patel’s condition improved for a while Wednesday after the ventilator was taken off, but it deteriorated again and he died Thursday.

The death of Patel was initially not disclosed by the hospital authorities. This is the second swine flu death in Ahmedabad in the past one week. One death each has been reported from Surat and Vadodara cities.
