New Delhi: The American auto mobile company , Ford Motors showcased its new model Figo in New Delhi on Wednesday . The Ford Motor will launch Figo, its first small car for the country in early 2010.
The Figo is part of Fords ‘One Vision’ and ‘One Team’ and ‘One World’ project said Alan Mulally, President and CEO of Ford Motor who unveiled the car at a function in the capital .
After the launch of its Fiesta Sedan in 2005 the company had not launched any new product, but has continuously been upgrading its existing product line. This new small car of the company is designed keeping in view the strategy of improving its profitability and productivity.
The company’s $500 million investment at a plant in Chennai for the global production of the small cars has doubled the plant’s production capacity to 200,000 units per year .
Ford Figo will compete with the country’s small cars product line which includes successful cars like Hyundai i20 and the Suzuki Swift . The country’s small car segment accounts for around 70 percent.
The company’s small car, code named B517 will be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. The car will be designed with a four door hatchback. Though the price range of the new car set on launch has not been revealed but officials of the company say that the price will be very competitive with current market leaders in the segment.
